24AcceptWestern TanagerJohnstonClyde Sorensonclyde_sorenson@ncsu.edu2/20/05At my bird feeding station in my backyard, 1 mile N of Clayton, NCBird made only one brief visit to my platform feeder. The birds was dull yellow underneath, a faint reddish wash on yellowish head near bill, chunky bill, and with two wingbars, suggesting the bird was male. It raked through the sunflower seeds and appeared to eat some crumbs, then left the feeder never (as far as I know) to return. Clearly the best "yard bird" I've had since I moved in to my house. 2011-08-25 23:35:260000-00-00 00:00:00

He made a tentative ID of dark ibis, knowing that it was either a Glossy or White-faced. He took a photograph that clearly showed a gray rather than brownish bill. The eye color could not be determined. Henry Link photographed the bird later that day. The image shows the grayish bill and a distictly red iris. These features were also noted by the other observers present when they looked through a powerful telescope. This and other photos have been posted to the CBC Photo Gallery2015-04-10 16:33:570000-00-00 00:00:00
73AcceptWhite-faced IbisHydeNick Flanders, Rand Falls, Melissa Bishop.flicknanders@hotmail.com3/24/13Mattamuskeet NWR "Entrance Impoundment" (just east of SR 94 and south of Lake).Continuing; up to 5 individuals had been reported mixed with Glossy Ibis in this Impoundment; initial bird found @ Lake Landing Impoundments. Flocks of dark ibis had been foraging in Impoundment all day, showing very intense foraging with heads down in tall grass; this + large distance away and dreary lighting conditions made ID tough. Multiple Great Egrets, Little Blue Herons, and a Great Blue Heron were usually in the vicinity, looking for fish turned up by foraging ibis? Finally, @ 3:30PM Rand Falls, Melissa Bishop + I tracked a flock of approx. 18 dark ibis with a few White Ibis mixed in to a position near Headquarters Rd. in the NE corner of this Impoundment. One White-faced Ibis paused from foraging and lifted head to preen for approx. 20-30 sec.s and all 3 observers noted red iris and pink facial skin well. Otherwise, head and neck were dark gray with faint streaky pattern; body plumage glossy but appeared a bit paler than that of nearby Glossy Ibis. Leg color not observed, and lighting made all leg colors difficult to distinguish. Bill dull gray, similar to Glossy Ibis nearby.2013-11-01 18:29:010000-00-00 00:00:00

I saw a flock of around 14 birds in the top of a White Pine and watched for several minutes. I then drove home and called a birding friend of mine. Later that same day we went back to the spot and immediately found the same birds foraging in the same grove of White Pines. 177AcceptWorm-eating WarblerGreeneAnn Briceann.brice@gmail.comExtensive woods amid farm fields. Swampy area nearbyHeard only. Buzzy, insect-like trilling song. I played song in field for comparison. I considered pine and palm warblers and chipping sparrow. It seemed more insect-like that the other choices. Recording seemed a good match for song I heard.2019-04-28 10:52:472019-05-02 14:02:43, 98.26.13.232
