9AcceptPainted BuntingPittKen Harrellpantelidisv@ecu.eduGreenville, NC Ken Harrell sent this painted bunting sighting to Carolinabirds listserv. Two other recent sightings have been reported in the local newspaper, The Daily Reflector, by Al Clark, executive editor. Veronica Pantelidis ----------- Date: Wed, 5 Mar 2014 13:54:17 -0500 From: harrellk7@yahoo.com Subject: Painted Bunting in Pitt County, N.C. A male Painted Bunting started coming to my feeder yesterday at 2:30 pm. While sitting in the den checking my emails, my daughter had walked to the kitchen and I heard her say that she was looking at the most beautiful bird she had ever seen. Needless to say this caught my attention and I ran to the kitchen window to see a brilliant Painted Bunting at the feeder. After scrambling for my camera and tripod, I got some pictures at the feeder and in the crepe myrtle in the backyard. It fed off and on from 2:30 until 4:00 and then disappeared but was back this morning at 8:00 am and has returned a couple more times. It only feeds at the feeder with millet. My first in Greenville, N.C. Hope it sticks around for a while. Ken Harrell Greenville, N.C. 2014-03-30 20:49:200000-00-00 00:00:00

147Reject   UnrejectPine GrosbeakGranvilleDeck Stapletondestapleton@embarqmail.comMay, 199280 acre farm on Jack Clement rdI know, I know I better have a photo for this to count. Unfortunately that's not the case. This is really NOT a submission because I do not have the documentation that would be required. But here is what happened on that date...I was outside doing some chore when a noticed a flock of sparrows (probably a lingering flock of white throated) and in that flock wI noticed a large cardinal sized pinkish bird. At the time I was really only a mid level birder, I knew the residents well and migrants fairly well. As far as finches I knew house and purple finch. The others, like crossbills etc, I knew only vaguely from pictures in field guides. So I see this bird and run into hse to get bins and field guide, I come back out, it's still there. I study bird and check field guide and the only thing that fits is pine grosbeak. When I saw its range in the field guide I realized I would probably never see another one on this property. So I watched and followed it for a few minutes. I remember it being rather tame. So I was able to watch it from fairly close by, say 30ft or so. So why did I not report it then? At the time I didn't know Carolina Bird Club existed nor did I really have any idea of how unusual a sighting it was. Birding was just something at the time that I did on my own land as a way of being more connected to the land. I didn't even know any other birders at the time. So, while I have this bird on my farm list and life list with absolutely no reservations I realize I would need photos or multiple qualified observers to confirm(and I did notice it's not listed for any counties where there are historic reports due to same documentation issues). So again this is not a real submission, I just wanted to report it. I wish I had owned a camera at the time, I could have gotten some killer photos. 2016-01-12 19:19:03Test from Tom_20170102 2017-01-27 16:14:38, 149.168.27.4
