General Comments Accidental. There are two state records for the Lesser Goldfinch: an immature male of the "Western" or "Green-backed" race was seen in Winston-Salem (Forsyth) on 27 Sep 1985* [Chat 50:59-60 link], and one adult male of the "Texas" or "Black-backed" race at a feeder in Beaufort (Carteret) from 2-4 Mar 2009* was seen by multiple observers and photographed [Chat 74:11-13 link].
