General Comments This is a species of the western United States, nesting from Montana and California southward into Mexico. It is migratory, though there are very few records from the Eastern states, unlike several other western flycatchers such as Western Kingbird and Ash-throated Flycatcher. Thus, surprising was a summer-season report of one identified as this species, photographed near the Jordan Lake dam (Chatham) on 30 Jun 2020* [Chat 84:128 link], [Chat 85:140 link]. The report has been reviewed and accepted by the NC BRC; numerous photos are on the Carolina Bird Club Photo Gallery.
