General Comments
Accidental. There are two state records for the Lesser Goldfinch: an immature male of the "Western" or "Green-backed" race was seen in Winston-Salem (
Forsyth
) on 27 Sep 1985* (Chat 50:59-60), and one adult male of the "Texas" or "Black-backed" race at a feeder in Beaufort (
Carteret
) from 2-4 Mar 2009* was seen by multiple observers and photographed (Chat 74:11-13). Several photographs of this last bird are on the Carolina Bird Club Photo Gallery.
